One of the most expensive pieces of jewelry in the film industry was the legendary necklace from the musical Moulin Rouge starring Nicole Kidman.
Initially, the creators of the project planned that the necklace would be made of artificial diamonds, since in the spotlight they shine brighter than natural stones.
However, jeweler Stefano Conturi convinced them that although the lab-grown diamonds did indeed sparkle brighter, they would be outdone by Kidman’s beauty. Imagine his powers of persuasion! After some thought, director Baz Luhrmann agreed with the master.
This luxurious Art Nouveau necklace took several months of painstaking work to create. The piece consists of 1,308 rose-cut diamonds weighing a total of 137 carats. According to the most conservative estimates, its value is about $1 million. I wonder if this amount is relevant at that time or today?
